MBA ? No, MEA, MDA and MGA

 

 Do you have MBA?”, asked some one.

Before that tell me, “What do you think MBA is for?”, I asked.

What a question, he said -- MBA - Master of Business Administration; To work in the corporate world. --All the Organisations Theories, Systems Thinking, Managerial communication with some business research methodology, various business models, contemporary issues in management and what not. After all, the corporate world needs many trained professionals.

"So answer me, Do you have MBA?", He asked again-

Not MBA, but we have MDA and MEA , I retorted.. Politely though.

That's sounds interesting --What's that?

MEA : Master of Education Action

MDA : Master of Development Action

After all we need professionals to strengthen our Public Systems... Don't we? He listened patiently and said - Oh, yes.

The basis of any good modern society is strong public systems -- let it be Public Health, Public Education, Public transportation, Public distribution systems. Solid public systems are necessary for a thriving democracy for the present and future generations of people who live in this country.

Careers in the Social Sector

"So what is your opinion about MBA programme?", he asked again. Of course we need good MBA graduates, who will manage and run businesses in an ethical manner without exploiting resources (human and natural). Managers who understand the Sociology of modern India. Managers who understand that Economic growth cannot end poverty—Managers who do not look at Education as an industry! Managers who can comprehend the fact that India’s Developmental challenges are often Social, Ecological and Political, and not Engineering or Managerial.

At one end while we focus on training MBAs, we need much more MEAs and MDAs too ! - To be part of the movement that I call 'The Social Sector' - To strengthen our Public systems.

In my previous post , I had written briefly about what it means to study in a multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, cross-disciplinary learning environment.  And that discussion led us to another debate – What are the true aims of Higher Education from the context of India? ________ Let us look at this aspect from the viewpoint of the trinity of Society, Market and the State.   From a Societal viewpoint : – The aim of higher education is to make me (the learner) employable at the workplace of the twenty first century!
